The Rock Report
- July 2007
Summer finally made an appearance at Crescent Rock Beach for a few days here
and there. The record stretch of a week with rain for the month made for a
rather bleak time. August should bring lots of clear skies and warm
temperatures so naturists can visit Surrey's nude-friendly shore. Enjoy it
while it lasts as the daylight is already getting noticeably shorter.
Unfortunately this month Nav Canada saw fit to change the flight path for
the Vancouver airport to the airspace above Crescent Rock Beach. Instead of
listening to the waves lapping on the shore, you now get the continuous roar
of passenger jets overhead. This change will be reviewed by Nav Canada in
three months and they are already feeling the pressure from area politicians
and angry peninsula residents. To help fight this ridiculous situation,
call Nav Canada at 1-800-876-4693, or email at aerostudy@navcanada.ca to let
these mindless bureaucrats know that the beach should be a peaceful place.
E-mails to the Mayor's of Surrey and White Rock, MLA Gordon Hogg, MP Russ
Hiebert, or a letter to the editor on this subject to the local newspapers
would also help to reverse this decision.
SUN has caught the BNSF trying to cover-up the fact that one of their
freight trains collided with a mudslide near Crescent Beach on March 11th.
This incident was never reported to the Transportation Safety Board as per
their regulations. When pressured about this event, BNSF claimed it had
never happened, even though their own spokesperson Gus Melonas stated in the
Vancouver Sun on March 12th that a BNSF freight train did collide with a
mudslide in this location. An eye witness plus photographic evidence also
back up SUN's version of events. This investigation continues at this time
so expect more news about it in the future.
