World Naked Gardening Day - Sat. May 14
The Naturist Society holds their 7th annual World Gardening Day this year, encouraging people from across the globe to tend their portion of the world's garden clothed as nature intended. Why garden naked? Next to swimming, gardening is at the top of the list of family-friendly activities people are most ready to consider doing nude. Moreover, our culture needs to move toward a healthy sense of both body acceptance and our relation to the natural environment. Gardening naked is not only a simple joy, it reminds us - even if only for those few sun-kissed minutes - that we can be honest with who we are as humans and as part of this planet.

Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society and the City of Surrey host WOD on Sunday, June 5 from 11am - 3pm at Blackie Spit, foot of McBride St., Crescent Beach, Surrey, B.C. Festivities begin at 1 pm with body painting and performances before the ride. CRESCENT ROCK BEACH DAY
Sat. Aug. 13 (Rain Date - Sat. Aug. 20)
The 5th annual Crescent Rock Beach Day held by SUN on Sat., Aug. 13 to celebrate naturism in Surrey. SUN hopes to raise awareness of this nude recreation area and calls for it to be officially recognized as a clothing-optional shoreline for the Fraser Valley like Wreck is for the Lower Mainland. We also want to bring attention to the concept of moving this historically dangerous railway from the ocean and landslide prone bluff to a safer inland route with the planned Vancouver to Seattle high-speed rail, turning the existing rail bed into a waterfront nature trail.

Bring your kites, skim boards, musical instruments, body paint, sandcastle tools and a hearty lunch to enjoy this special day to its fullest starting . If the weather is not warm and sunny, CRB Day will be rescheduled for one week later. Aug. 13th is also a Skinnydipper swim night at Newton Wave Pool, so you can make a whole naked day of it in Surrey - from 11 in the morning to 11 at night.

Wreck Beach Bare Buns Run - Sun. Aug. 14

Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup - Sept 25 (Non-nude)
SUN will be taking part in this nationwide beach cleanup planned for across Canada from Sept. 17 - 25 by removing litter, debris and flotsam from the 6.5 km. long naturist shores of Crescent Rock beach on Sun., Sept. 25. If you wish to participate please meet at the Crescent Rock boulder just south of the 101 Steps pedestrian overpass at the west end of 24 Ave. Large orange garbage bags will be supplied but please bring your own work gloves, hiking boots, plus water and food. Because of the rugged terrain plus unknown garbage that we will be collecting, having a nude cleanup is not possible due to safety concerns. The BNSF Railway has offered to partner with SUN to assist our environmental efforts by removing the bagged refuse from beside the rail corridor making our participation in this event possible.

SUN Days
For those sun worshippers out there who can't get enough of that bright ball of fire in the sky, the following calendar dates will be of importance to you. Spring equinox is on March 20, summer solstice is June 21, the autumn equinox is on Sept. 23, and the winter solstice is Dec. 22. If the weather co-operates, these might be good days to call in sick and visit a nude beach to celebrate these special celestial events by soaking up the sun's rays with other naturists, or by simply going to the ocean to note the change in the seasons.

Nude Swims
For a schedule of indoor nude swims held year-round throughout the lower mainland, visit nudeswims.bc.ca Simply click on the club names to be redirected to their websites for additional information and directions to the various aquatic facilities. For information on nude swimming in Surrey at the Newton Wave Pool with the Skinnydippers Recreation Club, visit http://club.skinnydipper.ca

Nude Cruises
The Skinnydipper Recreation Club frequently holds nude cruises at Stave Lake during the summer months. Join them aboard a large pontoon boat for a seven hour cruise on Stave Lake. Departing from the boat launch on Stave Lake you cruise up the lake with stops for skinnydipping and sunbathing. The scenary is spectacular in this remote area with mountains rising almost directly out of the water and glacier fed streams splashing down to the beaches. For more info visit http://club.skinnydipper.ca/cruises/cruise.php

Crescent Rock Beach patrols
SUN asks everyone who comes to Crescent Rock Beach to work together to keep the shoreline free of litter and debris, trusting when you leave the beach you'll take your own garbage plus any other discarded items you may find.

Please report any pollution (RAPP Line @ 1-877-952-7277), safety problems with the BNSF Railway (Transport Canada, New West. @ 604-666-0011), or harassment of wildlife (Surrey Conservation Office @ 604-582-5250) to SUN and the proper authorities. This includes low-flying ultra-light aircraft deliberately targeting eagles, herons and flocks of ducks on the shoreline. If you witness this activity try to record it with photos or video and note the registration numbers printed on the offending aircraft wings for identification.

Fisheries officers are concerned with the illegal harvesting of contaminated clams from the secluded shores of Crescent Rock Beach. SUN asks that if you see people digging clams please report them by calling the DFO 24-hour hotline locally at 604-666-3500 or toll-free at 1-800-465-4336. Eating these shellfish can cause serious injury or death, especially for those with a suppressed immune system.
